20th August 1988
The charity established its first overseas branch in Canada.
The launch took place at a dinner-dance held at the North Kipling Community Centre, Rexdale, Toronto.
Yasmin Lobo, who led a young Canadian team to organise the first HAPC fund-raising function, was simply overjoyed with the capacity crowd who contributed to make it successful function.

Yasmin thanked everyone for their support, especially her hard working committee and the band Night Fever (ex-UK) and the disco Dark Star and members of the UK & Bombay committee, who were in the travelling party from the UK, present in Toronto for the launch.
It is estimated that, beyond all expectations, $1,000 was raised. Understanably, Yasmin is already looking forward to 1989!
